I started working on my first intricate cross stitch pattern when I was about thirteen years old. I distinctly remember my Aunt Jane asking if I was sure about the complexity of the pattern :) Over the years, I have completed a small amount at a time and typically brought the cross stitch project out when I was stressed and needed to think of nothing but counting squares and choosing the right color.
When I took the project out a few weeks ago and realized I only had a tiny bit of outlining left, I couldn't believe that I was almost done. Seventeen years of work and it was about to be completed! I was a bit shocked that I had been working on this project for so long, but finishing the very last stitch was a great feeling.
After washing and ironing the piece, I couldn't get over how beautiful it was. The colors were perfect and the Serenity Prayer is a favorite of ours.
