We do not buy bread from the store anymore and I usually make a loaf of fresh bread a week. So much better than store-bought! A friend who owns Cafe Fresco introduced me to The Fresh Loaf website which has so many amazing recipes and information on bread making.
My all time favorite recipe for bread is now Rustic Bread. If you are looking for an airy bread with lots of flavor and a crispy crust, this is it! Here are some pictures of my loaves.
I still haven't excelled at scoring the bread but am getting better. I baked a braided bread a few months ago with garlic, sun dried tomatoes, and fresh herbs that was delish. It was amazing! The original recipe was an onion bread but I altered it to be more of an italian flavor. The recipe is here.
I have also made bagels a few times in the past. They turned out pretty good but I would like to find a recipe that isn't so dense. My first attempt at crackers was okay but I found out that they needed to be rolled out much thinner for all of the crackers to be crunchy. I will be working on perfecting these.
For those of you who do not know me personally, I have ventured a bit into cake decorating over the years. My wedding was located on a beach where cake delivery would have been a bit pricy. At the time, I figured "why can't I just make my own cake?". So, I had a practice cake at my shower (bad idea with a hangover from bachelorette party) and my wedding cake turned out lovely. The small one was the practice cake and both of these were done in 2007.
Since I made my own wedding cake, I was asked to help a friend decorate her wedding cakes. She had more than one cake and this was a pretty big job. The grooms cake had basket weave around the entire edge and lots of chocolate. They did turn out beautiful :)
