The tile in our downstairs bathroom had really nice blue tile that looked dingy and gross because of the wax buildup and years of grout staining. We really didn't want to place new tile on the floor because the floor is not level and has lots of bellies. So, we decided to try and reclaim the tile. First, we used muriatic acid to get most of the wax and dirt off. Note: be very careful when using acid. It IS acid... Then, we scrubbed all the remaining wax off. At this point, the floor looked much better but the grout was a dark grey color. I have never really liked dark grout because it tends to look dingy like the picture below.
Well, what now? While I was cleaning our floor that we had painted one day, I had the idea of painting the grout lines with our leftover epoxy paint. Would this work? I figured it wouldn't hurt to try it out. So, I grabbed the paint and a small artist brush and started painting the lines. This is a small bathroom thankfully and I only had to paint two coats. The result was amazing! Such a difference! We may put new tile in one day, but for now this is so much better than what it was. Will post pictures of the full remodel soon.
