It has now been about a month since my first symptoms of the Chikungunya virus. As much as I wish all the symptoms would be gone by now, I still have joint pain and the numbness. The numbness has gotten much better after taking the calcium channel blocker meds, but I still notice it a few times a day. Thankfully I haven't been woken up from the pain at night in the last few days! It is such a terrible feeling to not want to fall asleep because of the knowledge that your entire arm will go numb and throb with pain enough to wake you up. I tried sleeping on a recliner, with lots of pillows propping me up, and with my arm dangling off the side of the bed. Nothing helped. Fingers are crossed that it is going away now.
The joint pain is definitely kicking me down. Some days it seems like it is getting better and then the next morning I feel terrible. This week the joint pain started getting worse in my knees and my wrists feel like they have carpal tunnel. I am getting better with trying to ignore it but the sharp stabs of pain still make me cringe.
I definitely overdid it last weekend by working on our gutter screens and could hardly get out of bed the next day :( My feet were swollen and hurt. Movement does help a little but too much movement just makes it worse. If you are at this point, continue taking it easy. In summary, it still sucks.
To top it off, my hands have started peeling from the swelling that I had during the virus. I suppose my feet will be next... Lovely...
