One of the best things to do in Dominica is to hike, and with the large number of hiking trails, you could hike for months and still have areas to explore. The lodging we chose was located near Rosalie and hiking to Rosalie Point, which was close by, sounded like a good idea. We grabbed our hiking shoes, some water and snacks, and headed off. The start of this trail is near a beautiful black sand beach with palm trees bent towards the water. The road is just barely grated, so we parked our car next the the beach and started walking up the hill. If you are not used to walking up hills, I would suggest practicing a bit before venturing to Dominica for hiking. By the time we got up the first hill, we were both out of breath and knew this was going to be a leg workout. The owners of Mermaid's Secret, where we were staying, had never hiked this trail so we were hoping for some arrows to show the way. Unfortunately there were no arrows, but we could see the point in the distance and just kept walking towards it. At the very top of a hill, we saw a very tiny trail next to a power line (we put a marker here for future hikers). At this point, the trail was almost straight downhill. If you were to stumble, you would roll and roll and roll and end up in the ocean! We were both pretty quiet and focused on the way down because of this. Once we were in full view of the point, we were both in shock by how beautiful it was. After exploring a bit, we just sat and stared at nature's beauty. The ocean was crashing into the rocks with full force and had carved the cliff over the years. This is a wonderful place to remind yourself of just how small you are in comparison to the world. We really enjoyed this hike and would definitely recommend it to others.
