There are not many places in the world where open air markets still exist and flourish. Supermarkets have taken over and the average person probably never gets to experience going to a market where they can select locally grown items and be involved in a tradition that has existed since the beginning. The memorable markets we have been to so far have been in Mexico, Nicaragua, St. Croix and Dominica. In Dominica, the market is in Rosseau and is definitely worth experiencing. There are many varieties of locally grown produce, spices, and oils to select from and the prices are great. The locals are also really friendly and are happy to explain what produce is and how you should cook them. There were many items that we had no idea of what they were so it was a fun learning experience for us too.
