They are so used to the haircuts that they just lay there and roll over when I ask them. This is one of the reasons why I don't want to take them to a groomer now. If they have a bad experience at the groomers, they may no longer be so good for me when I cut their hair. So, I just keep doing it myself.
I finally gave in a few years ago and bought a good set of Oster hair clippers. Take my advice and do this in the beginning. I can't even tell you how many cheap Wahl clippers I bought and how much frustration there was when the stupid clippers stopped working in the middle of a haircut. It used to take me almost 2 hours to cut each dog, but with the professional clippers I can do each one in about 45 minutes.
The picture above is Buddy with about 1.5 inches of hair. Bonnie wouldn't stay still for me to get a picture of her, but she was just as fluffy. I cut their whole body and legs with 1/8 inch blade, their face with 1/3 inch blade, their tail and ears with a scissors, and my fingers and no guard for their mustache. It used to take me a long time to cut their face and the mustache often ended up crooked. But, practice makes perfect and it is easy now :) Here they are all trimmed up. Aren't they cute?! I think it might be beach time….
